Google Search Console Content Optimization Technique
Optimize existing web pages using Google Search Console queries and impressions
This technique uses native Google Search Console data to identify pages that get high impressions but few clicks. By finding the specific queries driving impressions and weaving those terms naturally into the page's copy, you can improve keyword relevance and organic traffic without paid SEO tools.
How it works
- Go to Google Search Console (search.google.com) and click on Performance > Search results.
- Select the 'Pages' tab and sort the table by Impressions descending.
- Find a page with high impressions but low clicks, and click on it to filter data to that specific URL.
- Switch to the 'Queries' tab to see what search terms that page ranks for.
- Sort queries by Impressions descending and find the top 2-3 search terms.
- Edit your webpage by writing a couple of additional paragraphs naturally incorporating those high-impression keywords (do not keyword stuff).
- Wait approximately one month to see improved ranking positions, clicks, and traffic.
What it's for
- Identify underperforming web pages with high search visibility
- Find relevant organic queries to refresh and expand existing content
- Improve click-through rates and organic ranking positions
