How I Go From Idea to Revenue in 13 Steps
A 13-step playbook for validating, building, and launching products into revenue
This framework outlines serial founder John Rush's process for moving from an initial pain point to a revenue-generating product. It prioritizes SEO research, fast social validation, and pre-launch audience building before writing any code. Founders can use it as a sequential checklist to avoid building products that have no demand.
The framework
The 13 steps (from the image, credited @johnrushx): [1] Idea. [2] SEO potential. [3] Pick least competitive. [4] Social validation. [5] Waitlist. [6] Organic Promotion. [7] Paid promo. [8] Directories & SEO. [9] Is there traction? [10] Coding MVP. [11] Turn Coding into Marketing. [12] Iterate. [13] Public Launch.
Thread details:
[1] Idea — build only products you would use yourself; the idea = your own pain. Took years of failed projects to learn this.
[2] SEO potential — spend hours in Google Search Console digging into keyword traffic trends; the best way to see if anyone actually searches for this; results often contradict intuition. Never skip this step.
[3] Pick least competitive — after keyword research, list ideas for solving the pain, look at what's on top of Google, pick the idea with the least competition.
[4] Social validation — tweet, blog, reply in relevant threads; it must pass a threshold. Final validation: pitch to his wife; if she finds it boring, kill the idea.
[5] Waitlist — build a quick landing page with Unicorn Platform (5 min on the page, 1 hour inserting good keywords from step 2's SEO research).
[6] Organic Promotion — launch the waitlist the same way the idea was validated: blog, social media, replies under relevant threads.
[7] Paid promo — with no followers, pay $100–$300 to a relevant influencer to post it, or buy an ad on a relevant directory.
[8] Directories & SEO — list the project on at least 100 directories (manually or paid via Listingbott); activate SEObot right away for organic traffic in a few months.
