Account Scoring and Signal Stacking Framework
Four-step outbound targeting framework separating ICP fit from real-time operational triggers.
A B2B outbound methodology developed by Alex Vacca that separates static company-fit scores from dynamic event signals. It prioritizes outreach by identifying accounts that match your ideal profile and currently exhibit specific operational bottlenecks, followed by delivering upfront value rather than generic personalization.
How it works
Core idea: an account can score 100/100 for ICP fit and still have no reason to be emailed today. Keep company-fit score and signal score separate. In the walkthrough: ~25,000 companies in the CRM, filtered to 21,000, small sample for the demo.
Steps:
1. Score the company before looking for a trigger. Use industry, headcount, and sales team already in place; check criteria against closed-won deals — a founder's dream customer can differ from actual paying customers.
2. Track what is changing inside those accounts. A funding announcement alone isn't enough; look for signals that add up to a problem you can solve. Example: an account building an SDR team whose job descriptions also pointed to CRM cleanup, sales playbooks, and reps sourcing their own outbound → specific reason: investing in sales capacity while reps still do their own sourcing.
3. Use that evidence to decide what to offer. E.g. build the account-scoring and signal-tracking workflows feeding their CRM; the message follows from the work they need done.
4. Show the work before asking them to buy it. Generate a custom GTM playbook for the prospect including signals to track, tools to use, and steps to build into each workflow, enough detail to see implementation.
Relevance beats personalization: repeating a job title or congratulating on funding adds little; showing how you'd help with the problem behind the signals is what's useful. The full conversation also covers scoring setup in Freckle, signal stacking, free work, and content building trust before outreach.
