The Overemployed Playbook

Tactics and operating principles for working multiple remote jobs simultaneously.

A consolidated set of tactics from r/overemployed and tech discussions outlining how remote knowledge workers secretly stack multiple full-time roles. It details operational habits, interview strategies, boundary management, and how to maintain high compensation with minimal active effort.

The framework

Deedy's summary of the 'overemployed' playbook: hardware mouse jigglers; remote-only jobs; AI everything; camera off / async culture; week 1 PTO; 'focus work' on calendar; keep LinkedIn obscure; outsource busywork; do the work quickly, deliver it slowly; 'nothing from my end'. He adds: it's a non-issue if your employment contract allows it; it's fraud only when you lie, falsify your resume or mislead.

From the Reddit post (u/bigfatphonyacct, r/overemployed, '5 J's @$800K TC... Using an ROI mentality', went 3J→5J in two weeks, making $3K+/day):

- Be an expert in your field (data). 15 years experience + 3 years of overemployment taught the latest software methods; clients value having you.

- All remote, no days in office.

- Tell them up front you're a 'consultant': skip all-hands and daily standups, keep distance from the organization, take a few tough sprint items and solve them over two weeks.

- Be determined and vigilant: never let a plate drop; check emails and Teams across multiple US time zones all day.

- Core principle: no J should take too much effort (time) relative to the return; stress is a signal — if they're demanding or unfriendly, drop them.

- Keep applying for jobs (drought for 6 months, then three hit fast).

- Applying notes: add peripheral skills/years to match the job description; know the 'top 20 interview questions on X'; it's OK to fail; LinkedIn great for inbound if you have experience (keep resume, LinkedIn and 'verification' different); 'never failed a background check. Just lie' — talk down reference calls to one email contact, be firm: if they extended an offer they want you; treat interviews as a game — lie, cheat, steal, use AI; with AI you can solve any problem in any tech skill: jobs are going to people who know how to use AI.

Context: r/overemployed is a ~500K community; Deedy claims 'there are 1000s of Soham Parekhs we don't know about.'

What it's for

  • Manage time and calendar conflicts across multiple simultaneous consulting or full-time gigs
  • Identify red-flag work cultures that demand high meeting frequency or on-camera presence
  • Pace task delivery to avoid setting unsustainably high workload expectations

Key points

  • Remote-only requirement with strict async communication and camera-off preferences
  • Consultant framing to opt out of routine all-hands and daily standup meetings
  • Paced delivery model: completing tasks quickly using AI, but delivering them slowly over the sprint
  • Calendar blocking using private focus blocks across multiple enterprise accounts
  • Low-friction boundary setting by dropping demanding or high-stress engagements quickly
  • LinkedIn management tactics to maintain obscurity and prevent employer overlap visibility
