# Single-Color UI Palette Overlay Technique

> Create a cohesive UI palette from one brand color using opacity overlays

This technique generates a harmonized five-color UI palette from a single base color using black, white, and gray opacity overlays. It creates brand-tinted neutrals for dark text, backgrounds, borders, and secondary accents instead of generic grays. This ensures subtle visual consistency across an interface without complex color calculations.

## How it works

How to create a brand-tinted color palette from one base color:

1. Start with your primary brand color swatch and duplicate it.
2. Brand Black: Place a solid black layer over the brand swatch and set its opacity to 80% or higher.
3. Brand White: Place a solid white layer over the brand swatch with opacity above 95% (e.g., 96-98%).
4. Border / Divider Color: Place a bright light gray (RGB around 194, 194, 194) layer over the brand swatch with opacity set between 50% and 80%.
5. Secondary Highlight: Place a white layer over the brand swatch with opacity set between 70% and 90%.
6. Apply these five swatches (Brand, Black, White, Border, Secondary) across your interface to maintain clean hierarchy and brand cohesion.

## What it is for

- Generate tinted neutral tones that harmonize with a primary brand color
- Build a quick five-shade design system palette inside tools like Figma
- Replace stark, unharmonized grays and borders in web or mobile UI mockups

## Key points

- Step 1: Start with a duplicated primary brand color swatch.
- Step 2 (Brand Black): Add a solid black overlay at 80% opacity or higher.
- Step 3 (Brand White): Add a solid white overlay at 95% to 98% opacity.
- Step 4 (Border / Divider): Add a light gray overlay (approx. RGB 194, 194, 194) at 50% to 80% opacity.
- Step 5 (Secondary Highlight): Add a solid white overlay at 70% to 90% opacity.
- Step 6: Use the resulting five swatches across UI text, surfaces, and borders.
