Self-Improving Agent Loop via skill.md
A workflow pattern where agents document completed tasks into reusable shortcuts
This technique has an AI browser agent automatically generate a structured skill.md file after successfully completing a complex task. On future runs, the agent reads the saved document to bypass exploratory actions, dramatically cutting down step count, execution time, and token cost. It serves as an accessible design pattern for building self-optimizing agent pipelines.
How it works
Structure of a generated skill.md: name and description (user-invocable), key URLs including state-page patterns, a numbered navigation flow, and an 'Extracting the Table' section with browser.get_html() + BeautifulSoup code that locates the table via a regex on a section heading, with fallbacks. Any agent (e.g. Browser Use) can adopt this run → skill → shorter run loop.
What it's for
- Reduce token spend and latency on recurring browser automation tasks
- Extract structured data from repetitive multi-step web scraping workflows
- Build a persistent, self-improving knowledge base of browser workflows for AI agents
Key points
- Automatic generation of markdown documentation after successful task runs
- Standardized skill schema including URL patterns, navigation steps, and extraction code
- Inclusion of concrete parsing snippets like BeautifulSoup code with regex fallbacks
- Seamless integration with agent frameworks like Browser Use for subsequent runs
