Reverse the Thought-Word-Deed Paradigm
A mindset technique of starting with action rather than thought.
This technique, taught by Neale Donald Walsch, flips the traditional creative sequence of Thought to Word to Deed by initiating with physical action first. By acting directly as if the desired condition is already present, it aims to bypass mental resistance and shift your internal state. An example includes giving away portions of a remaining small sum to immediately practice generosity and abundance.
How it works
- Understand the standard creation process: Usually, creation begins with a Thought, moves to a Word (speaking or declaring it), and ends with a Deed (action).
- Reverse the paradigm: Start directly with the Deed to trigger the desired reality ('act as if').
- Practical exercise for abundance: If you want to experience abundance, act as abundance does. For example, if you only have $5 left, break it into five single dollar bills and give one to each of five people who have even less than you. By acting generously from a place of having enough to give, you embody abundance.
What it's for
- Break through mental resistance when trying to shift personal mindset
- Practice abundance and generosity when feeling financially constrained
- Adopt the behaviors of a desired identity immediately through physical action
Key points
- Understand the standard creation sequence: Thought, Word, then Deed
- Invert the sequence by performing the Deed first ('act as if')
- Perform small, tangible actions that reflect the desired internal state
- Reinforce internal belief through external evidence generated by your own actions
