Paper

Design canvas built on web standards that connects to AI coding agents

Visit paper.design ↗

Paper is a UI design tool built on web standards (HTML and CSS) that provides a shared visual workspace for human designers and AI coding agents. Through Model Context Protocol (MCP), agents like Cursor, Claude Code, and Codex can read and write directly to the canvas, syncing tokens and layout variants between code and design.

What it's for

  • Connect AI coding agents to a design canvas using MCP to read and update layouts
  • Generate responsive UI variations and design system color tokens directly from a codebase
  • Populate design mockups with live data from APIs, local files, or production databases
  • Iterate on copy and interface components in the canvas and push edits straight to code

Features

  • HTML and CSS native canvas rendering without translation loss to code
  • Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for integration with Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, and VS Code
  • Continuous bidirectional syncing of design tokens, styles, and components with code repositories
  • Live data injection into UI layers from local files, APIs, and databases
  • Visual canvas editing tools including flexbox layouts, styles, radiuses, and blending modes
  • Available as both a desktop application and in-browser tool
