# My View of the World

> Philosophical essays by Erwin Schrödinger on metaphysics, consciousness, and Vedanta.

A collection of philosophical essays by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Erwin Schrödinger exploring the nature of reality and consciousness. Schrödinger draws heavily from Vedantic philosophy to argue for a unified, non-plural view of mind and reality, examining why existence itself presents an astonishing riddle to human thought.

## How it works

Quote from Schrödinger's 'My View of the World':

"Astonishment and wonder are what we feel on encountering something that differs from what we expect. But this whole world is something we encounter only once. We have nothing with which to compare it, and it is impossible to see how we can approach it with any particular expectation. And yet, we are astonished. We are puzzled by what we find, yet are unable to say what we should have to have found in order not to be surprised, or how the world would have to have been constructed in order not to constitute a riddle."

- [@electricpants, 4 August 2023](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CviDtKwsROb/): Provides a profound philosophical answer to the question 'Why is there something instead of nothing?', pointing out that astonishment requires an expectation to compare against, which doesn't exist for the totality of reality.
