Investor Pitch Deck Structure & Guidelines
An 8-slide framework for building clear, concise startup pitch decks.
This framework offers an 8-slide outline and presentation guidelines for pitching early-stage startups to investors. Designed around keeping explanations simple enough for anyone to grasp, it sets strict presentation boundaries like capping product demos at two minutes. It also outlines key fundraising metrics to include, such as round size, target valuation, and existing commitments.
How it works
Core principle: Your deck should be simple enough that you could hand it to your grandmother and have her understand it.
Slide Structure:
• Slide 1: Elevator Pitch (high-level overview of the business)
• Slide 2: Problem (the specific pain point you are solving)
• Slide 3: Solution (spend a maximum of 2 minutes on a product demo, then return directly to the deck)
• Slide 4: Market (total addressable market / TAM)
• Slide 5: Proprietary Technology (what tech you are building and why it's defensible)
• Slide 6: Business Model (monetization and revenue strategy)
• Slide 7: Competitors (competitive landscape and advantages)
• Slide 8: The Team (why this team is suited to win; include notable advisors and early investors)
The Ask / Funding Details:
• Clearly specify the raise amount and valuation (e.g., raising $500k at a $3M valuation).
• State how much capital has already been committed against that round.
• If no outside capital is in yet, highlight founder capital invested, showing founders put skin in the game first.
