Convert GPT-4o Images to Editable Vectors with Recraft
Workflow to turn raster AI images into layered, editable vector graphics
This tutorial details a simple workflow for converting raster images generated by GPT-4o into fully editable vector art using Recraft. It explains how to import raster generations, configure vectorization parameters, and isolate individual vector layers for recoloring or fine-tuning. It is particularly useful for graphic designers and illustrators who need scalable, modular assets from AI prompts.
How it works
Workflow: 1) Generate the image with OpenAI's GPT-4o model in ChatGPT (here a 'recreate in studio ghibli style' portrait). 2) Take the image into Recraft (recraft.ai). 3) Use Recraft's Vectorize feature — shown with a 'Recraft V3 Raw' image model, similarity-to-original and artistic-level sliders, and 'Vectorizing...' progress. 4) Adjust 'Number of colors' (26 in the demo) to tune the palette. 5) Result is a fully editable vector: individual shapes (e.g. the NY cap logo) can be selected and recolored, and layers/timeline visible in the canvas editor.
What it's for
- Turn raster AI generations into scalable SVG graphics
- Recolor specific elements and layers in an AI-generated illustration
- Prepare ChatGPT image outputs for print or production vector workflows
Key points
- Generate source raster art using OpenAI's GPT-4o image generation in ChatGPT
- Import images into Recraft and apply the Vectorize tool
- Tune fidelity using similarity-to-original and artistic-level controls
- Set the target color count to simplify or enrich the palette
- Select, isolate, and recolor individual vector paths directly on the canvas
