# 4-Column Business Decision Matrix

> A framework to prioritize tasks based on impact, urgency, and cost

Created by Chris Do from The Futur, this prioritization framework helps business owners decide what to execute, delay, or delegate. It evaluates potential tasks against a specific financial goal across impact, urgency, and resource cost. This helps avoid decision fatigue and keeps focus on high-leverage business activities.

## How it works

To make strategic decisions on where to invest your time and resources:

1. Define a Clear Goal: Anchor your evaluation to a specific metric or milestone (e.g., hitting $100,000 in revenue), rather than vague ambitions.
2. Create a 4-Column Matrix:
3. Column 1 (Activity): List out the candidate tasks, projects, or paths you are considering.
4. Column 2 (Impact): Assess how much measurable impact this task will make directly against your defined goal.
5. Column 3 (Urgency): Determine whether this needs to happen immediately or if it can wait.
6. Column 4 (Money / Budget): Score the required financial cost/budget on a relative scale (e.g., $ to $$$$$). Low-cost/free tasks get a $ rating.
7. Evaluate & Execute:
8. Prioritize tasks that score high on both Impact and Urgency.
9. For necessary tasks that have a low dollar rating ($), delegate or hire someone else to execute them so you can focus on core high-leverage activities.
